Profile

Ruth Akulu is the Founder and Executive Director of HopeStone Insight Uganda, where she leads the organization's work to influence policies, strengthen health systems, and promote sustainable investments in health.

As an economist by training, she brings an economic perspective to health policy, financing, and development. Ruth holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Trade Policy from Ndejje University and is pursuing a Master's degree in Economics of Sustainability at Torrens University Australia.

She has contributed to technical working groups and decision-making platforms at the national, regional, and global levels, advancing evidence-informed health policy and equitable access to healthcare.

She also serves as the Youth Representative on Uganda's Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) Board for the Global Fund and the African Representative on the International AIDS Society (IAS) Governing Council.

Lydia Nakafu is the Programme and Operations Director at HopeStone Insight Uganda, where she supports effective programme delivery, organizational systems, coordination, and operational management.

Lydia holds a National Diploma in Procurement and Supply Management from the Buganda Royal Institute of Business and Technical Education and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development at Africa Renewal University.

She is passionate about strengthening organizational systems, fostering collaboration, and ensuring programmes are effectively implemented to create meaningful community impact.

Brian Itebeka is the Finance Manager at HopeStone Insight Uganda, where he oversees financial planning, budgeting, reporting, compliance, and internal controls to support effective programme implementation and organizational sustainability.

Brian brings years of experience in finance and administration, with previous roles at LMN Advocates and Deloitte Uganda, where he gained expertise in financial management, payroll administration, audit support, and operational controls.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Makerere University, a Bachelor of Business Administration, and is pursuing Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification with ICPAU.

He is committed to strengthening financial systems that promote transparency, accountability, and responsible resource management.

Profile

Christopher Kanyemibwa is the Research and Policy Lead at HopeStone Insight Uganda, and also a demographer whose work explores the intersection of population dynamics, health systems, and economic policy in East Africa.

He is passionate about using data to understand how social, environmental, and economic conditions shape human wellbeing and inform responsive policies and programmes.

Christopher holds a BSc in Demography and Reproductive Health from Kyambogo University and is currently pursuing graduate studies in Population and Reproductive Health at Makerere University.

He brings expertise in research design, monitoring systems, health impact assessment, and stakeholder engagement, with growing interests in health economics, economic demography, and climate-health connections.

Sonia Uwera is a Research and Policy Assistant at HopeStone Insight Uganda, supporting research, data analysis, and policy initiatives that strengthen evidence-informed decision-making.

She is passionate about ensuring that community perspectives, especially those of young people, are reflected in policies and programmes.

Sonia is a finalist pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics at Kyambogo University.

She has experience in data collection, field research, and community engagement through her work with the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) during the 2024 National Population Census and the 2025 Baseline Education Census, as well as through her internship at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

Victoria Nalweyiso is the Communications and Advocacy Officer at HopeStone Insight Uganda, bringing over seven years of experience in strategic communication, advocacy, and community engagement.

She specializes in translating complex health and policy issues into clear, relatable messages that inform, inspire action, and strengthen community participation.

Victoria holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts with Education, specializing in English Language and Literature.

She has worked with organizations including SRHR Alliance Uganda, AHF Uganda Cares, ACTS101 Uganda, the National AGYW Advocacy Forum, Girl Champ Awards, and Naguru Teenage Centre, contributing to advocacy initiatives and media engagement efforts.

Victoria uses her skills to amplify community voices, promote informed decision-making, and advance HopeStone’s mission of creating healthier and empowered communities.

Brendah Baluka is the Administration and Human Resource Assistant at HopeStone Insight Uganda, supporting administrative systems, staff coordination, and human resource processes that enable effective organizational operations.

Brendah holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Human Resource Management) from Cavendish University Uganda.

She brings experience in administration, client engagement, records management, and organizational support from her previous roles with Sanlam Life Insurance, Airtel Uganda, and Cavendish University Uganda, where she gained skills in coordination, communication, and people management.

Committed to continuous learning and teamwork, Brendah contributes to strengthening internal systems and creating an enabling environment for effective programme delivery at HopeStone.
